Silver Traders | Silver Merchants

My name is John Edwards. My current position is the head silver trader for The Silver Merchants LLC.

My Background: In the early 1980’s I was a precious metals broker for three companies; Monex International, Deak & Co. and PMI. At Monex, I was a broker. A few months later I was offered the position of Precious Metals Manager for Deak & Co. for all of their Hawaiian operations and offices. Later at PMI, I was the Operations and Trading Manager.

  • At Deak & Co., I was responsible for all purchasing and sales of precious metals. I was also responsible to do the daily radio update, along with the daily updates for the Honolulu Advertiser and the Honolulu Star Bulletin newspapers.
  • At PMI, we produced the television program, How to Survive the Future, hosted by Doug Clark. At that time Mr. Clark was on the New York Times best seller list.  He authored the book, How to Survive the Money Crash. In conjunction with Mr. Clark, we also held weekly information seminars with 300-500 people in attendance.
  • Besides buying and selling precious metals both on margin and cash at PMI, we also purchased scrap metals.  Besides allowing us to learn about ins-and-outs of the refining market, we also learned about the “secondary market” in precious metals that most people in the industry are unaware of. (This information, coupled with my other previous experience, now allows us to offer silver coins from decades-established reputable sources at prices that are highly competitive.)

After the gold and silver bubble burst, it became apparent the “powers-that-be” were going to do whatever was necessary to suppress the price of precious metals. For that reason, I left the metals trade, and the prices basically remained flat for twenty years.

Fast-forward to 1999. Because I still knew of all the wholesale sources and contacts, I started investing my company’s surplus capital by purchasing $5 silver. Word of what I was doing eventually got around to my family and friends, and they started to ask me if I could also get them silver at a fair price. Word spread further. Since I was doing acquisition anyway, I decided to reconnect with some of my old precious metals contacts, and formalize the activity into a business; The Silver Merchants LLC.

The Silver Merchants is not a big brokerage house. We offer three things to our customers: 1) silver (no gold), 2) at fair prices, 3) with immediate delivery. If we don’t have it in inventory, we won’t sell it.

The Silver Merchants is buyer and seller of silver, but we are not a “market maker.” Although we will try to facilitate any purchase or sale, we do not guarantee that we can or will do so. The Silver Merchants LLC reserves the right to refuse any transaction for any reason.
